This 5-day trek follows a non-circular route. We will hike via the Tutume, Kajeri, and Mude trail, spending two nights at Mude Camp before summiting on Day 4. On Day 5, we exit the mountain, passing by the dramatic “Wall of Death” viewpoint.

- Early Morning Departure: We depart Kampala at 5:00 AM to ensure we reach the trailhead in Kween district by approximately 11:00 AM.
- Lunch & Acclimatization: Upon arrival, you'll have time to relax, enjoy a hot lunch, and prepare for the trek.
- Afternoon Hike: We set off at 1:00 PM for a 5-hour hike (approx. 8 km) through lush montane forest to Tutume Cave.
- Arrival & Overnight: We arrive at the camp around 5:00 PM. Enjoy the unique cave experience, a campfire under the stars, and a well-deserved rest.
- Accommodation: Camping at Tutume Cave Camp.
- Morning: Wake up to a hearty breakfast and break camp. We set off at 8:30 AM.
- Today's Hike: This is a 7-8 hour trek (approx. 12 km) through varying terrain. You'll encounter beautiful birdlife and possibly spot antelopes. We'll enjoy either a hot or packed lunch along the trail.
- Altitude Gain: We ascend to approximately 3,000 meters above sea level. Temperatures drop noticeably, so warm clothing is essential.
- Arrival at Kajeri Camp: We arrive at Kajeri Camp, set up our tents, and enjoy a hot dinner, a campfire, and a spectacular sunset.
- Accommodation: Camping at Kajeri Camp.
- Morning: After breakfast, we depart for the longest and most scenic day of the trek.
- Today's Terrain: This day is truly spectacular. We pass through moorlands, cross iconic valleys, and witness the magnificent caldera (one of the largest in the world) and the fascinating Mude Caves.
- Arrival at Mude Camp: We arrive at Mude Camp, situated in a cold, high-altitude environment. We'll set up our tents, enjoy hot tea/coffee, and gather around the campfire for warmth and stories before dinner and rest.
- Accommodation: Camping at Mude Camp (2 nights).
- The Big Day: Today, we aim for the summit of Wagagai Peak, the highest point on Mt. Elgon at 4,321 meters above sea level.
- The Route: We'll hike via Jackson's Pool, a tarn (mountain lake), traverse the peak, and pass through the dramatic gorge before reaching the summit.
- Distance: This is a strenuous 18-kilometer round trip.
- Lunch Break: We will enjoy a packed lunch at Jackson's Pool on our return journey from the summit.
- Return to Mude Camp: We retrace our steps back to Mude Camp, where a warm welcome awaits—a blazing campfire, hot water for washing, and hot coffee/tea to soothe your muscles.
- Sunset & Rest: Relax and watch the sunset over the caldera, celebrating your incredible achievement before a final dinner and rest.
- Accommodation: Camping at Mude Camp (2nd night).
- Final Day on the Mountain: After breakfast, we begin our descent. This is a long but amazing day, taking us past the famous "Wall of Death" viewpoint, where we'll stop for snacks and take in the breathtaking scenery.
- Exit & Transfer: We continue to the designated exit point where boda-bodas (motorcycle taxis) will be waiting to take us to the main road (a fun and authentic experience!).
- Lunch: We enjoy a well-earned farewell lunch.
- Return to Kampala: We bid farewell to our porters and team, and transfer back to Kampala, arriving in the evening.
- Meals: Breakfast, Snacks, Lunch.
What's Included in the Package Price
- Park Entry Fees: 5 days and 4 nights of entry into Mt. Elgon National Park.
- Guide Fee: Professional, English-speaking, and certified mountain guides.
- Porters: Experienced porters to carry your main luggage (we recommend a 15kg maximum).
- Camping Equipment: Tents and sleeping mats (sleeping bags are not included; please bring your own).
- Meals: Full board meals as indicated in the itinerary (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) plus snacks and hot drinks.
- Transportation: Round-trip transportation from Kampala to the trailhead and back.
